SAT Test Preparation - International

The test takes place globally on fixed dates set by the College Board at authorized test centers: check the dates and deadlines here.

Results will be available about 2 weeks after the test!

The Digital SAT takes place in person at an authorized test center (such as high schools or international schools) using your own electronic device. No paper or pencils are used for the answers: the entire test is administered through an official app called Bluebook. The exam follows this automatic order:

• Reading & Writing – Module 1 (32 minutes / 27 questions).
• Reading & Writing – Module 2 (32 minutes / 27 questions). The difficulty of this module adapts based on your performance in the first one.
• Mandatory 10-minute break: You can get up, have a snack, or use the restroom. Your device remains locked with the break timer displayed on screen.
• Math – Module 1 (35 minutes / 22 questions).
• Math – Module 2 (35 minutes / 22 questions).

Mastering the test topics, taking practice tests, and honing time management are essential. Achieving a top score for university admission requires developing a solid strategy and problem-solving method that improves with practice.

The SAT test for students taking it in Italy (or in any other country outside the United States) costs $111 (approximately €100–105, depending on the current exchange rate).

This amount is the sum of two fixed fees from the College Board:

• Base test fee: $68
• International registration fee (Regional Fee): $43

In the Digital SAT, your final score doesn't just depend on how many questions you get right, but also on which ones you get right and their difficulty level.

Each section (Reading & Writing and Math) is divided into two modules:

• Module 1: Contains a balanced mix of easy, medium, and hard questions. Your score on Module 1 determines the difficulty of Module 2.
• "Hard" Module 2: If you get about 60–65%+ of the questions right in Module 1, you unlock the advanced-level Module 2. This allows you to reach the higher score range (600–800).
• "Easy" Module 2: If you make too many mistakes in Module 1, Module 2 will present simpler questions. This caps the maximum score you can achieve in that section (usually no higher than 550–600 points, even if you score perfectly on the second module)

The total score for the Digital SAT ranges from a minimum of 400 to a maximum of 1600 points, calculated as the sum of two main sections:

• Reading and Writing: 200 to 800 points
• Math: 200 to 800 points

Here is how this number is calculated and how the scoring scale works:

The Basic Calculation (No Penalty)

Unlike other tests, there are no penalties for wrong answers.

• Correct answer: adds value to your score.
• Incorrect or omitted answer: worth 0 points.

From Answers to Final Score (Equating)

The College Board does not use a fixed conversion like "1 question = X points." Instead, it uses a statistical process called Equating to ensure that scores hold the exact same value regardless of the test date or the specific difficulty of your session:

• Raw Score: The algorithm measures your correct answers, weighting them based on the difficulty of the questions you faced across both modules.
• Scaled Score: The raw data is converted into the official 200–800 scale for each of the two sections.
• Total Score: The final sum is displayed (e.g., 680 in Reading & Writing + 740 in Math = 1420 Total).

The Score Report

When your results are released (about 2 weeks after the test), your personal account will display:

• Your total score (400–1600) and section scores (200–800).
• Your Percentile: Indicates how you rank compared to other test-takers worldwide (e.g., a 90th percentile score means you scored equal to or higher than 90% of students).
• The Knowledge and Skills map: Shows your strengths and weaknesses in specific content areas (e.g., Algebra, Grammar, etc.).
